Our Services

We offer individualized evaluations based on client needs and parent interview. We offer individual and group speech therapy sessions, pragmatic play groups, facilitated play dates, and parent coaching services. The following specialized programs are available through IICA.

BECKMAN ORAL MOTOR THERAPY™

Developed by Debra Beckman and provided by Beckman certified therapists. These specific interventions provide assisted movement to activate muscle contraction and to provide movement against resistance to build strength. The focus of these interventions is to increase functional response to pressure and movement, range, strength, variety and control of movement for the lips, cheeks, jaw and tongue.

INTENSIVE PARENT TRAINING PROGRAM™

This program is designed to help model and coach parents to facilitate language and social growth in their child at home through structured play activities. It involves hands on work with both parent and child and between parent and child. This program generally lasts 8 weeks.

IT TAKES TWO TO TALK™

Curriculum is provided by a Hanen Centre certified therapist. These parent groups meet one night per week for approximately 9 weeks, with individualized follow-up visits to family homes throughout the program. This group focuses on teaching parents how to elicit language from their young child in a functional way.

PARENT CONSULTATION SERVICES™

This parent centered treatment utilizes a combination of the best developmental practices including principles from DIR, RDI, and SCERTS (we’ve received formal and extensive training in all methods). These services consist of meetings between the therapist and parent(s) for approximately 2 meetings per month. Videotapes of weekly homework practice between parent and child are analyzed.

PROMPT METHOD™

Developed by Deborah Hayden, examines each individual to determine how to develop the most normalized and flexible motor control, cognitive skills and social interactions in the quickest way with the most functional results. This type of therapy is appropriate for children with oral-motor difficulties including Apraxia. PROMPT therapy is offered by certified therapists.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS™

We offer a full battery of testing forchildren in the areas of speech, language, language processing, etc. Our assessments are based on setting treatment plans for functional goals in order to help our young clients achieve their potential.

TalkAbility™ — The Hanen Program® for Parents of Verbal Children on the Autism Spectrum

• Have conversations with others
• Play with children their own age
• Talk about things that interest someone else
• Change a routine without becoming frustrated

If you’ve noticed more than one of these difficulties in your child, the TalkAbility Program can help. Specifically designed for parents of verbal children ages 3-7 with social communication difficulties, the TalkAbility Program teaches parents practical ways to help their child learn people skills.

MORE THAN WORDS® — THE HANEN PROGRAM® FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

The More Than Words Program was designed specifically for parents of children ages 5 and under on the autism spectrum. Addressing the unique needs of these children, the program provides parents with the tools, strategies and support they need to help their children reach their full communication potential.

More Than Words does this by empowering you to help your child reach the following three goals:

1. Improved social skills
2. The ability to engage in back-and-forth interactions
3. Improved understanding of language

The More Than Words Program focuses on your natural, day-to-day life with your child. You’ll learn how to tweak the activities that you’re doing with your child already and turn them into productive and enjoyable learning opportunities.

SOS FEEDING SOLUTIONS™

Feeding Solutions program integrates sensory, motor, oral, behavioral/learning, medical, and nutritional factors and approaches in order to comprehensively evaluate and manage children with feeding/growth problems. It is based on, and grounded philosophically in stages and skills of feeding found in typically developing children. Our team consists professionals from the fields of Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy who have completed advanced training directly with Kay Toomey.

PICTURE EXCHANGE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (PECS)™

PECS, developed by Lori Frost, MS CCC-SLP and Dr. Andrew Bondy, allows people with little or no communication abilities to communicate using pictures. People using PECS are taught to approach another person and give them a picture of a desired item in exchange for that item. By doing so, the person is able to initiate communication. A child or adult with autism can use PECS to communicate a request, a thought, or anything that can be reasonably displayed or symbolized on a picture card. The goal of PECS is to teach children with autism a fast, self-initiating, functional communication system. PECS begins with the exchange of simple icons but rapidly builds “sentence structure.”
